Tararua wind farm is situated on the Tararua Range in the North Island of New Zealand. Tararua wind farm is positioned on 700 hectares of private beef and sheep farming land on the south direction of the Manawatu Gorge, in the Tararua Ranges. Tararua wind farm has become New Zealand’s biggest capacity wind farm with a total capacity of 160 mega watts (MW). In 1999, this wind farm was first commissioned and since then has been upgraded twice. Tararua wind farm is owned and operated by Trust Power. This wind farm is regarded as New Zealand’s biggest wind farm, both in terms of output and number of turbines.

Tararua wind farm encompasses 134 turbines of two different types. It has 31 Vestas V90 3 megawatt turbines and 103 Vestas V47 660 kilowatt turbines. Tararua wind farm produces an average annual output of 620 GWh.

Tararua wind farm is an outstanding example of green, clean renewable energy resource.This wind farm is well supported by the local community and currently is a major tourist attraction.
