Windshare Lagerway

This is North America’s first truly urban wind turbine situated on the grounds of the Canadian National Exposition. For installation of this plant, Toronto Renewable Energy Co-operative did a five year struggle, which now generates 1000 kilowatts of electricity

per annum.Toronto Renewable Energy Cooperative fought very hard to overcome from the issues like noise, bird killing, pollution and property values, but they stuck to their idea of cooperatively owned wind turbine in the heart of the Canada’s biggest city.

This project was officially launched in February 2002, which is also known as community owned wind project in Ontario. Annually, it adds an average of 1000 kilowatts of electricity to the city’s main power grid. Windshare and its patent, Toronto Renewable Energy Cooperative, have plans for more wind turbines, which are called as “The Lakewind Project.” WindShare Lagerway wind farm is very beautiful and a real treat to watch.
