In the early 1980’s wind development began in Tehachapi Pass, which hosts multitude wind farm and it is California’s one of the largest resource areas. Tehachapi Pass is a mountain pass in United States, which is located at the northwest end of Tehachapi Mountains.

This area has multiple generations of wind turbine, including both single and double blade turbine as well as modern three blade horizontal axis design. The old design turbines produce kilowatts and modern design turbines generates up to 3 megawatts electricity. Tehachapi wind farm is exporter of electricity to other parts of the state of California.

The Tehachapi Wind Farm has 5000 wind turbines, which are the second largest collection of wind generators in the world, but now it is largest wind power array in the world in terms of output. The turbines are operated by private companies, which collectively produce 800 million kilowatt-hours of electricity, enough to meet the residential needs of 350,000 homes every year.

Tehachapi Mourning Cloak Ranch and Botanical Gardens-

Tehachapi Loop-

In 1876 a railroad engineer conceived the Tehachapi loop, allowing trains to climb a steep grade. Daily 40 freight trains execute the loop, making it busiest single track line in United States.
